Tales where the sun rises and sets>

Title of programme: „Tales where the sun rises and sets”

Age, number, gender of participants: 6 youngsters (possible 3 girls, 3 boys) aged between 17-19 plus a leader

Participating countries: Poland, Finland, France,Slovakia and Hungary

Place of programme: North of Hungary (a village up in the mountains) a perfect place for having falk tales, village people can tell old-old tales, and the area is full of ancient castles and castle ruins which is also a land of legends.

Time of programme: 20th August – 28th August (arrival on 19th August, departure on 29th August) 10 nights altogether

Theme of the programme:
1. Through a research on national falk tales, we would like to point out common things in the falk culture of the participating countries. Questions are in focus like: whether cleverness beats pure power, the youngest is the cleverest, just wins in the end. We would also like to have discussion about the fight of good and evel, see in what forms good and evel emerge in the story, what are the magic numbers used in the story. By analyzing these points, we will draw the conclusion regarding the common heritage, common roots of European culture.
2. When presenting the tales to the other groups, we would also have some contest on which tale and which performace do the majority of the groups like the most. Through the contest we choose two tales that we develop to a slide show (drawing pictures, paraphasing subtitles) The advantages of a slide show:
- It is easy to give a copy of it to the local schools, organizations that they can learn from (multiplicative effect)
- No language problem, because we can have the subtitles in different languages
- If needed it is easy to put on Internet
- We would develop all those falk tale to a slide show which HAVE NEVER BEEN ANY FILMED OR ANY ADAPTED BEFORE – that is the main idea, we create something unique that has never been before.

Objectives:
1. Finding common points in the falk culture of the nations
2. Developing a slide show
3. Making youngsters aware of similarities and differences of falk culture
4. Developing their own creativity (editing, drawing, text writing skills)
5. Developing their presentation skills
6. Making them take initiatives

Afternoon: presenting things (aims, programmes, members, contacts) about ourselves, introducing our own organization.

21st August – Sunday:
Morning: Every group has to bring 3 falk tales to Hungary ready for presentation: We are going to spend 3 mornings with presenting the tales to each other. (one morning 4 tales, 1 tale from each organization) you have to concentrate on the quality and creativity of each presentation. So in the morning we listen to 4 falk tales, one from each participating country.

Afternoon: Evaluation of the tales. method of evaluation: „Keywords”. We group the youngsters into international groups, they all receive big sheets of paper, and they have to write down the tales (heard in the morning) only with keywords. We are interested in how many words match in the stories of the countries.

Contest: all groups have to choose the best tale of the morning (taking the story, the text and also the technique of presentation into consideration).

22nd August – Monday:
Morning: Presentation of 4 falk tales (each country one), we are thinking of the methods of puppet show, shadow theatre, play on stage, picture and music illustrated presentation

They receive 5 differnt colours of paint (important that te colours have to be either warm or cold colours). Youngsters have to paint a picure of each tale, and we are interested what colours they use for illustration, by using the colours they express emotions. After drawing, we analyze what the different methods are in the story to express emotions. DO DIFFERENT COUNTRIES USE SIMILAR THINGS FOR EXPRESSING HAPPINESS OR SADNESS???
